I thought I should really come on and re-introduce myself on social media, I rarely make an appearance on here, but I know how important it is for our couples to know the background behind Tullyveery and the family run ethos we have here. My name is Charlie Heron, and I took over the custodianship of Tullyveery back in 2019 – our family have had the privilege of calling it our home for over 250 years and I now have the honour (and responsibility) of maintaining it for future generations.
I grew up by the Clea lakes which Tullyveery overlooks and spent a lot of my childhood up at the house, working alongside my father, Michael, who worked the farm, managed the grounds and did a lot behind the scenes at the weddings and events. My uncle, Colin, diversified the farm into hosting weddings with our first wedding being held back in 2012 and even filmed a TV show ‘The Farm Fixer’ alongside BBC’s Apprentice Judge Nick Hewer.
Our ethos is very much ‘we don’t really do weddings we just know how to throw a really great party!’. My background is in engineering (soil mechanics specifically – exciting stuff! 😊), and my team here call me a bit of a perfectionist; I like to be organised for every eventuality and it is something that lends itself very well to orchestrating a wedding/event and managing a range of suppliers to ensure our couples’ days run to plan and on time (which is key to all guests having a relaxed and enjoyable day).
We usually run weddings from Easter until Halloween so we can focus on maintenance and projects in the winter months as well as having more time to spend with family – it is still our family home. This past Christmas was particularly special as my sisters and their families came from Australia to spend the festive period with us – I’m not sure the house had ever seen such energy and excitement (or stair gates!).
At Tullyveery we always have a project up our sleeves. This year’s project has been ongoing for some time behind the scenes, and I really look forward to officially launching our new event space ‘The Orchard’ at our Wedding Fair and Open Day on Sunday 1st of September. The Orchard is adjacent to the walled garden and provides a space with a canvas canopy overlooking the orchard which can be used for ceremonies or receptions alike. Providing cover from a rain shower or shade from the sun. Giving our couples more options and flexibility on the day, at short notice.
I look forward to meeting some potential couples at the wedding fair, chatting plans with those booked with us and of course to reminisce with past couples. The team and I love to see so many couples returning to Tullyveery. It means so much, they feel like an extension of the family and the Tullyveery story.
We are a family run venue, with my mother, Ramona, working tirelessly in her ‘retirement’ behind the scenes, and my auntie (Jill) and cousin (Louise) being part of the front of house team. We also actually have a couple of past brides working with us which says a lot about their love of the venue. We are a tight knit team who love to see the grounds and venue full of life and being enjoyed. We really look forward to meeting you all at our upcoming wedding fair and open day.
Charlie
