How did you make Tullyveery work for your travelling guests and their accommodation?

We have had couples from various continents marry with us here at Tullyveery. A real privilege and honour to host guests from all around the world. Usually one of the couple have grown up in N. Ireland and so have a desire to get married at ‘home’ but not always.

We have had couples both from Ireland who live as far away as Australia and have planned their wedding all the way from Oz. Some couples have flown in with their friends and family from Scotland and England too, but we have also had couples travel to us to get married.

It can feel a little overwhelming in the organising process to have to think about over-seas guests travelling to celebrate with you and organising a weekend of activities and logistics for them but this is where the Tullyveery team are on hand to help.

At Tullyveery we do not boast accommodation for your guests but with our short commute to Belfast hotels being only 30 minutes away it has still worked well for our couples who have guests staying in Belfast Hotels. Allowing their guests short transfers from the airport and for them to be central to explore Belfast city and see the sights.

At Tullyveery we have worked with local coach companies and have ample space for drop offs and pick ups for multiple coaches.

Alternatively we have a range of local B&B’s and Air B&B’s in and around the Killyleagh area  and lots to see and do locally also. Again the Tullyveery team are on hand to recommend restaurants, cafes, walks, cultural exhibitions, events and leisure activates for your party.

Here are a couple of quotes from couples who had a wealth of guests travel over for their wedding day with us share how it worked for them.

With us having a pretty much 50/50 split of guests that were from N.Ireland and the rest traveling over from England the best option for us was to put a bus on to transport guests! We had 2 morning pick ups in Belfast to bring everyone down which in itself worked really well as people got to catch up on the journey and to be honest start the party a bit with a good laugh on route, it was also really handy that everyone arrived together and on time!!! Again for the journey home it was great, the guests didn’t have to think about it, easy to hop on the bus and have a bit of craic on the way home! Ballyred (bus company) were great as well and made additional stops for local family along the way (Carryduff/Saintfield). Our guests loved being able to experience the beautiful countryside on the wedding day but also use their trip to explore Belfast city! We had some English family opt to stay local also (Dufferin Coaching Inn) which they loved and were very well looked after in, the staff there were also able to arrange taxi’s for them on the day! All in all I think the bus transport was a great choice - people could pick their own hotel depending on how they wanted to spend the weekend which is particularly helpful when guests have differing budgets, we know its expensive enough travelling over for a Wedding so it was perfect being able to make some hotel suggestions and people choosing what suited them best!

We chose Tullyveery as we completely fell in love with the whole place and just knew we had to get married here. The majority of our friends and family travelled from England so accommodation was definitely needed. Even though it was lacking onsite, it did not put us off as we loved the setting and knew it would be the most perfect place for our special day. We simply arranged a coach that we put on for guests if they wanted from the main group accommodation we picked for our guests, we chose Lisnacurran House just outside Hillsborough, as it was convenient to us (they were really great) and the coach firm were so organised and liaised with the staff at Tullyveery for dropping and picking up everyone. The coach company were happy to do drops along the way that were arranged and in the grand scheme of wedding planning was not a huge expense. Others got pre-booked taxis there and back from Belfast which wasn't an issue, it was only 30mins so wasn't too much of an inconvenience to guests. The views and stunning setting definitely outweighed the little onsite accommodation, it definitely didn't deter us or our guests.
