How do you choose the right season to get married in?

A wedding in any season will be magical, but picking the right one for you as a couple will make it extra memorable. 🥰

From the daffodils along the avenue in April here at Tullyveery, to the rhododendrons marking Spring and the hydrangeas in bloom in July, our grounds flow from season to season beautifully. Our mature trees change colour creating a more beautiful backdrop with every season.

We have created a little pros and cons list of each season to help you when making your decision on which season you would like to get married in.

Tullyveery is beautiful in the Spring as the buds on the trees are bursting into leaf, just one of the wonderful signs of Spring.

The avenue up to the house in April (and almost into May at a push) is a sea of daffodils and it brings us such joy to see those early signs of Spring when the green shoots begin to appear.

It makes the drive up to Tullyveery even more breath-taking than normal through the mature towering trees above the avenue.

The walled garden is bursting into bud in anticipation of bloom and can really be a little micro climate of its own – sheltered from the breeze and creating a lovely little suntrap, perfect for a ceremony or afternoon tea/drinks reception.

The walled garden’s location makes it convenient to Courtyard amenities as well providing easy assess to the rest of the grounds for photographic opportunities.

The herbaceous border provides a wonderful backdrop for your ceremony from spring right through to late Autumn.

One of the more intimate and mature gardens at Tullyveery, the Sitting Room Lawn planting provides natural shelter and the scented azaleas in early spring are breath taking.

Summer at Tullyveery is simply a pleasure. The grounds and walled gardens are in full bloom.

There are so many outdoor wedding options here at Tullyveery as well as indoor options should you prefer an indoor wedding or if plans need to change last minute.  All of which are fully licensed by the Newry, Mourne and Down Council to hold Civil, partnership and religious ceremonies of which we only ever host one per day.

The Front Lawn is best suited for ceremonies from early summer onward whereas the walled garden is suitable in all seasons. The front lawn is perfect for couples wishing to marvel at the natural beauty of the rolling Drumlins of County Down and the silhouette of the Mourne Mountains while making their vows. With the Georgian house behind you and the panoramic views in front, it is hard not to want to tie-the-knot in such an inspiring location.

Of course irrespective of where you host your ceremony all spaces at Tullyveery are available and open to you and your guests to stroll through and for photographic opportunities.

Everything at Tullyveery is within walking distance with lots of thought and consideration made in regards to poor weather. We have an umbrella hut at the car park with ‘brollys’ for guests on arrival and a cloister overhead in the courtyard for those who need a little fresh air but would like to stay dry. We also have a fully covered outdoor gazebo/stage should you have a band/entertainment set up outside.

Take a look at the blog post ‘A Photographers Playground’ to see just how many photo opportunities are available here at Tullyveery and also follow our Instagram page to discover real Tullyveery weddings and how the grounds look in your chosen season.

Even though our gardens are a labour of love and we get such joy from the flowers blooming, autumn is secretly our favourite season here. The mature grounds and trees turning golden which can be quite stunning. Making for some spectacular backdrops for our couples on their big day.

We love this season also because we find in summer our couple’s plan and hope for a good day weather wise but in autumn they plan for the ‘worst case scenario’ weather and can actually end up with an Indian summer or a dry day, warm and dry enough for outdoor canapes and drinks, and crisp enough for blankets and smores. Also, with the nights getting darker earlier it adds to the impact of a sparkler send off…..it can really be quite magical!

Unfortunatley Tullyveery only operates between April and October for weddings and events so a winter wedding is not an option at Tullyveery.

We are a family run wedding venue and use this as our downtime and time to focus on improving the venue; working on the grounds, maintaince and expansions. We are very particular and like to keep a high standard and this allows us to do that.
